Warning: The video below has spoilers.
Geek boys and girls (specially girls), let me tell you, you’re in for a treat. Felicia Days’s book had me laughing from the very beginning.
The first time I ever heard about Felicia Day was about 10 years ago. My husband is a big video game player and he came across this web series being featured on Xbox called The Guild. He’d obviously heard of Felicia Day as she is very prominent in the video game community and he thought I would like her and her series The Guild. I did not like The Guild, I loved it. I thought Felicia was adorable in The Guild, but when I found out she was the creator and producer I was impressed and so proud of her. Girl power, yeah! However, my true fandom really developed when I came across her on Goodreads. That’s how Felicia Day became My Girl, my kind of peeps. This smart and funny woman likes romance novels! Weeeee! Cheesy, horrible cover, romance novels. And not just the typical historical romance novels (which I also love), but fantasy and paranormal romances. My favorite! Yup, it seemed like she had my same guilty pleasure. Through her Goodreads list I’ve discovered some of my favorite books (Silent in the Grave by Deanna Raybourne, The Duke of Shadows by Meredith Duran, Naked in Death by .JD. Robb, Daughter of the Blood by Anne Bishop, Master of Crows by Grace Draven, Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor and so many more! ). But my favorite Felicia Day discovery was her Vaginal Fantasy book club. I’ve followed almost every book club episode and made sure to read all of their book selections. I love their episodes and the rest of the Vaginal Fantasy Book Club members: Veronica Belmont, Bonnie Burton and Kiala Kazebee. My husband also likes watching a couple of them with me and loves it when little video game nuggets are mentioned such as their love for Diablo and Borderlands. I feel like these ladies have made me embrace my love for romance novels and not be ashamed of my guilty pleasure. If you have not checked our their Vaginal Fantasy Book Club episodes I highly recommend that you do. You’ll discover great books and have a wonderful time with the Vaginal Fantasy ladies.
So of course, as soon as I found out that Felicia had written a book it quickly went on my to-read list. And as luck would have it, a couple of weeks ago I met with my book club, Page Against the Machine. One of the book members is our friend Aaron from Books & Books and he happened to mention he had received an ARC of Felicia’s book. I was like, “Whaaaaaa?! Oh my god, I love Felicia Day!”. And lo and behold, at our next book meeting he brought us all free books including You’re Never Weird on the Internet – Almost. YES! My very first ARC of one my favorite people. I felt so SPECIAL! I was so excited, I started reading it the very next day. And did not put it down until I finished it that same day. I loved it! I was honestly laughing out loud every 5 pages or so. I had no idea what a great writer she was and after reading her book I can see why. I knew she was super smart but had no idea how much of a genius she really is. Her book was honest, uplifting, so sad at some moments and very inspiring. I highly recommend Felicia Day’s book, specially for anyone who has felt like an outsider or who didn’t fit in.
And staying within the geek/nerd girl theme, our next book review will be One Con Glory by Sarah Kuhn. I loved this very short book and I’m looking forward to reviewing it.
Happy readings!
