Welcome to our fifteenth episode of our video podcast the Izzie & Coco Book Review Show. In this episode we talk about Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen. Queen of the Tearling is a moving story about a 19 year old girl forced to reign a kingdom over night. Kelsea has been living a secluded life. She’s only interacted with her two guardians who raised her and taught her how to be a fair queen through examples in history. As soon as Kelsea arrives at her castle she is confronted with the reality that her mother (and preceding Queen) signed a treaty to ship thousands of citizens to the neighboring kingdom as slaves – every year.
We loved this book and recommend it with a YAY! Kelsea is a tough ruler with a good heart and does what’s best for her kingdom. The villains are pretty scary, a red witch that sacrifices children to the Dark Lord for powerful magic; an unscrupulous slave trader masquerading as census officer, and a sleazy oblivious uncle. This book is a page turner that will keep you wanting to find out what happens next. We can’t wait to read the sequel. Let us know what you thought! Remember to leave us a comment, we love hearing from our readers/viewers. If you found a book you love because of our recommendations or share an absolute love or hate for a book, tell us!
